This job is for an entry-level prosecutor in the U.S.
Attorney's Office in New Jersey, where you'll handle federal criminal cases in court, starting with simpler tasks and moving to more complex ones as you gain experience.
It's ideal for recent law school graduates with some practical legal work under their belt who are passionate about public service and fighting crime.
You'll need to be detail-oriented, ethical, and ready to live near the office in Newark, Trenton, or Camden.
The United States Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey is comprised of 166 attorneys located in three offices: Newark, Trenton, and Camden.
The USAO has jurisdiction and responsibility over a broad range of subject matter areas, all of which involve advancing the criminal and civil legal interests of the federal government.
Positions are located in Newark, Trenton, or Camden New Jersey. Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S.
jurisdiction), and have at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications: Hiring preferences include strong academic records, outstanding organizational skills, superior written and oral advocacy skills, demonstrated analytical ability, good judgment, and a commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public service.
The ideal candidate will have two or more years of post-J.D. experience litigating cases with substantial responsibility for all aspects of trial, written and oral advocacy, and discovery.
You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement. Major Duties:
Initial assignments for AUSAs will be in the Criminal Division, where they will be responsible for representing the United States in the prosecution of federal crimes.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing.
In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C.
545 for district-specific information.
