Full Job Description

The Assistant Manager – Program II - Specialty Courts will be responsible for assisting withthedailyfunctionsoftheCriminalCourtsincludingManagesthedaily activities and court sessions of the assigned Specialty Court(s).

Provides strategic direction to professional and clerical support staff to accomplish goals and maintain successful operations of the unit.

Ensures compliance with all statutes, rules, court orders, and Criminal Courts policies and procedures. Assists in preparing and submitting competitive grants for Specialty Courts.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises one or more employees in the Criminal Courts. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these employee(s). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the county’s policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employee(s); planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.

Requirements

  • Manages the daily planning, organizing, and controlling of operational and programmatic activities as directed by the Specialty Court Program Manager for the assigned Specialty Court(s).
  • Participates in the employee selection process, conducts employee performance appraisals, monitors and evaluates employee conduct, and initiates disciplinary action and formulates improvement plans when necessary.
  • Supervises and monitors staff compliance with state and departmental policies and procedures to ensure the consistent completion of primary service objectives in a professional manner.
  • Manages and approves applications and coordinates activities for multiple specialty court programs.
  • Provides program orientation and conducts intake interviews with defendants. Provides information about the expectation of the court and the conditions of participation in the program.
  • Compiles statistical data and submits monthly reports to Criminal Courts. Tracks number of intakes, graduates, and terminations in all assigned Specialty Courts.
  • Administers state-required risk and needs assessments on defendants who are referred and accepted into Specialty Court(s), creates treatment plans, and provides results to the court and Case Managers to design supervision plans.
  • Audits case files and documentation on all participant contacts.
  • Communicates with law enforcement and community agencies about education classes and treatment for defendants while maintaining departmental confidentiality protocols.
  • Participates with the judge, family members, and attorneys in court hearings and preparing required documentation. Testifies as needed.
  • Reviews daily jail reports to determine if case is eligible for the Specialty Court program and trains staff on contacting attorneys to advise of program availability.
  • Assists in the preparation and submission of competitive and formula grant applications for federal and state funding.
  • Participates in departmental planning meetings and various work groups to develop programs and policy initiatives to address problem areas within the program.
  • Monitors performance of subcontracting service providers and verifies compliance with contractual requirements. Evaluates subcontractors for adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
  • May be called to testify or provide corresponding information to federal and state granting agencies on projects and grants awarded to Criminal Courts Administration.
  • Attends all necessary court proceedings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to stay organized and know how to prioritize the workload.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Competency with computers and Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
  • Advanced analytical skills.
  • Skilled in assessments and interviewing and has knowledge of community referral sources.
  • Knowledge of methods of research to include the use of automated systems and computer software including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and security programs; operation capacity and capabilities of current information technology
  • equipment; and data administration including the categorizing, storing, and dissemination of information.
  • Knowledge of training and educational methods to include both formal and informal education in various formats, communication planning, and program development.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Social Work or a human services field.
  • Three (3) full-time years of work experience in criminal justice or human services field.
  • Valid and current driver’s license required,


Preferred Requirements:

  • License in a behavioral health profession preferred.

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent may be required to bend, hear, keyboard, sit, stand, talk, work alone and with others, and work overtime. Must be able to lift up to 25lbs.
