This role involves leading a team that investigates crimes, fraud, and waste in the Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure proper use of resources and compliance with laws.

Full Job Description

This position is location in the Office of Investigations (OI), Office of Inspector General (OIG), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Through Headquarters and field operations, OI is responsible for all matters relating to the investigation of alleged violations of law or regulation or other irregularities in the administration of the Agency's programs and activities.

Mandatory Qualifications Requirements: Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic Requirements, Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs), and Technical Qualifications (TQs) in their resumes. A.

Basic Requirement: As a basic requirement for entry into the SES, applicants must provide evidence in their resume of progressively responsible executive level leadership and supervisory experience that is indicative of senior executive level management capability.

Typically, experience of this nature will have been gain at or above the GS-14 or 15 grade levels in the federal service or its equivalent in the private sector. B.

Technical Qualifications: Your resume should demonstrate accomplishments that would satisfy the technical qualifications.

TQ 1:Demonstrated experience leading, directing, and monitoring a comprehensive Federal criminal investigative program involving broad and complex issues of fraud and other criminal activity, waste, or abuse.

TQ 2:Demonstrated experience leading a program that develops, implements, and ensures compliance with investigative policy and procedures. C.

Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs): In addition to the Technical Qualification Requirements listed above, all new entrants into the Senior Executive Service (SES) under a career appointment will be assessed for executive competency against the following five mandatory ECQs.

ECQ 2: Driving Efficiency - This core qualification involves the demonstrated ability to strategically and efficiently manage resources, budget effectively, cut wasteful spending, and pursue efficiency through process and technological upgrades.

ECQ 3: Merit and Competence - This core qualification involves the demonstrated knowledge, ability and technical competence to effectively and reliably produce work that is of exceptional quality.

ECQ 4: Leading People - This core qualification involves the demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a group toward meeting the organization's vision, mission, and goals, and to drive a high-performance, high-accountability culture.

This includes, when necessary, the ability to lead people through change and to hold individuals accountable.

ECQ 5: Achieving Results - This core qualification involves the demonstrated ability to achieve both individual and organizational results, and to align results to stated goals from superiors.

Note: If you are a member of the SES or have been certified through successful participation in an OPM approved SES Candidate Development Program (SESCDP), or have SES reinstatement eligibility, you do not need to respond to the ECQs.

Instead, you should attach proof (e.g., SF-50, Certification by OPM's SES Qualifications Review Board (QRB)) of your eligibility for noncompetitive appointment to the SES. Major Duties:

As the Assistant Inspector General for Investigations, you will: Provide expert advice and guidance consistent with applicable law and the interpretations thereof by the VA OIG General Counsel, the Department of Justice, and VA's General Counsel on issues relating to the conduct of OIG criminal and administrative investigations, and other initiatives designed to prevent or detect inefficiency, waste, fraud, abuse and mismanagement in VA programs and operations.

Monitor significant developments and actual or potential problems relating to the investigation program.

Be responsible for the management of the OI including permanently established field units and temporary offices established in connection with task forces.

Assess the effectiveness of OI's programs and operations.
