Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping people in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program by assessing their nutritional needs, creating personalized food plans, and providing education on healthy eating to families and groups.

It also includes planning outreach activities and handling client inquiries to support public health services.

A good fit would be someone with a background in nutrition or related fields who enjoys working directly with communities to promote better health.

Key Requirements

  • Associate's degree in nutrition, dietetics, health education, human ecology, or a related field from an accredited college or university
  • Valid driver's license equivalent to a non-commercial Class C Maryland driver's license

  • Experience assessing diets, preparing nutrition plans, and prescribing food packages per federal and state guidelines
  • Skills in providing nutrition counseling, education, and referrals to resources
  • Assistance in planning, implementing, and evaluating nutrition education programs and outreach
  • Ability to investigate and resolve client inquiries, complaints, and assist in training new staff

Full Job Description

Pay Schedule I, Grade 21, Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week

Vacancies exist in Clinical Services/Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), Department of Health and Human Services.

You MUST be a merit (full-time), non-merit (part-time), or temporary employee of the Baltimore County General Government to apply for this position.

Requirements

Under general supervision, provides consultation and assessment, and delivers various nutrition related services, including public health, nutrition education, and food service programs, to individuals, families, and groups.

Screens clients and obtains necessary documentation to determine medical and nutritional risk for WIC eligibility according to established Federal regulations and State guidelines.

Takes and records pertinent client information including height, weight, and hemoglobin measurements. Obtains clients' diet histories and assesses adequacy using standard guidelines.

Prepares and implements nutrition plans. Prescribes food packages to meet clients medical and nutritional needs.

Counsels clients, provides educational materials, and makes referrals to other appropriate resources.Assists in the planning and implementation of nutritional education programs and outreach activities.

Assist in the development and distribution of educational materials, such as pamphlets, audio-visual aids, displays and reports.

Assist in evaluating the need for services, and in the planning and implementation of service delivery.Receives, investigates, and resolves inquiries, requests, and complaints.

Assists in the development of new or improved clinic processes and/or procedures.

Assists in training and orienting new personnel.Examples of Other DutiesActs as a team leader and supervises staff in the absence of Community Nutritionist.

Qualifications Required QualificationsGraduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate in Arts degree in health education, nutrition, dietetics, a human ecology/home science, or a related field.Licenses and CertificatesPossession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.Proof of Licenses, Certifications and EducationApplicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required qualifications of the position.
