This job involves running and fixing an asphalt plant for the city's public works team, mixing asphalt for road repairs, testing it to meet standards, and keeping everything compliant with environmental rules.
It also includes helping with emergency tasks like snow removal during bad weather.

The City of Norfolk’s Department of Public Works is currently seeking an Asphalt Plant Operator I within our Streets & Bridges Division.
This position operates and maintains the City’s asphalt plant; designs, mixes, performs various tests on asphalt blends and ensures operation is in accordance with all Federal, State and local laws.
The Asphalt Plant Operator I also performs major and minor repairs and maintenance on the plant, facility buildings and construction equipment.
The Department of Public Works builds, maintains, and operates the physical facilities that support and enhance the lives of Norfolk’s citizens, businesses, and visitors, including the City’s Street Network, Storm Water System and Waste Management and Recycling Systems.
The Department is comprised of 8 divisions that function collectively to make your commute safe and efficient, your neighborhood more attractive, and the streets and sidewalks clean and well-maintained.
The Division of Streets & Bridges strives to make vehicle and pedestrian traffic throughout Norfolk pleasant and safe by repairing potholes, road repairs, broken sidewalks, curbs, and gutters.
The Division is also responsible for grading shoulders and medians and responding to emergencies by removing ice, snow, and storm debris.
