This job involves reviewing permit applications for dams, water barriers, and land encroachments to protect Pennsylvania's rivers and streams, while also conducting field studies on fish, plants, and other water life.
You'll analyze data and make decisions to ensure projects follow environmental laws.
It's a great fit for someone with a science background who enjoys outdoor work and cares about keeping water clean and safe.
The role entails a variety of responsibilities centered around the environmental assessment of applications related to dams, water obstructions, and encroachment permits within a designated geographical region.
This includes a thorough review of Water Obstruction and Encroachment Permits, as well as responding to complaints associated with these permits.
The position requires the individual to assist in making informed determinations and decisions that align with the Dam Safety and Encroachments Act, as well as Chapter 105 of the Department's Rules and Regulations.
This is achieved through careful interpretation, assessment, and analysis of data derived from permitting information, field documentation, relevant reference materials, and feedback from other pertinent agencies.
Additionally, the role involves conducting and coordinating field investigations and ecological studies focused on aquatic habitats, encompassing both plant and animal life, as well as the surrounding environmental conditions.
Participation in biological surveys and investigations is also a key aspect of the position, where the individual will analyze community structures to gain insights into the ecological dynamics at play.
