Job Description

Summary

This job involves investigating reports of abuse, neglect, or exploitation against vulnerable adults, such as the elderly or those with disabilities, and helping them get the support they need to stay safe.

Workers assess situations, document findings, and recommend solutions while traveling within the state.

It's a great fit for compassionate people with a background in social services who enjoy advocating for those who can't easily speak up for themselves.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Family & Human Development, Criminal Justice, Gerontology, or related field (for Caseworker I)
  • Social Service Worker license or equivalent in Utah (required for Caseworker II)
  • At least 6 months of experience as a case manager or investigator
  • Knowledge of investigative techniques for abuse, neglect, and exploitation
  • Ability to assess client needs, vulnerability, and capacity independently (especially for Caseworker II)

APS Investigator (Caseworker II)

APS Investigator (Caseworker I/II)

The Division of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS), within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is looking for an APS Caseworker I or II for the Salt Lake County.

The APS Caseworker provides adult protection services (APS) by investigating and assessing allegations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation on vulnerable adults, and documenting investigative findings and client progress toward risk resolution.

This position requires in-state travel as part of the normal workload.


This position is currently a hybrid of both in-office and remote work days and it will serve Utah County. The employee may also be required to attend DAAS/DHHS events.

The State of Utah requires all employees to physically work inside the State of Utah Boundaries.

This job may be filled at either of the levels listed below


Caseworker I: A Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Family & Human Development, Criminal Justice, Gerontology or a closely related experience is preferred. This employee will operate under close and regularly provided professional supervision.

Caseworker I (Range $18.77-$28.16)



Caseworker II: Requires a Social Service Worker license or a closely related license in the State of Utah. This employee will be fully trained and exercise independent judgment and discretion and assess human service needs for elder adults and/or people with disabilities.

Caseworker II (Range $20.89-$31.41)



Principal Duties

The Caseworker I/II:

  • Assesses client needs

  • Investigates abuse, exploitation, and/or neglect referrals

  • Recommends appropriate care or intervention

  • Documents client progress

  • Complete assessments for clients regarding vulnerability and capacity
  • Other duties as assigned

This position requires in-state travel as part of the normal workload.


The Ideal Candidate

  • Has at least 6 months employment as a case manager or investigator

Physical Requirements
  • Moderate -Some of the work performed requires some physical exertion. You may be required to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend; crouch; stoop; stretch; reach; lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.).


Working Conditions
  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and

ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire

regulations, etc.

  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may

be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc.
