This job involves helping to build, test, and maintain custom software applications for Travis County, from gathering what users need to writing code and fixing issues.
It's a hands-on role in a team that uses modern tools to create reliable programs for government work.
A good fit would be someone with a computer science background, experience in programming and databases, and a collaborative mindset who enjoys problem-solving in a flexible, remote-friendly environment.
This position has duties in every step of our application development process and may include: Microsoft Azure DevOps, .NET, C#, Angular, JavaScript, YAML, SQL, Terraform, Agile Processes.
Assists in the designing, coding, testing, implementing and support of internally developed application software.
Assists customers and senior team members in gathering and documenting organizational requirements. Makes recommendations towards the development of new code or reuse of existing code or modules.
May participate or assist with component and data architecture design, performance monitoring, and product evaluation. This position is eligible for telework/remote work.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
The ideal candidate would have a good grasp of computer science fundamentals including data structures/algorithms, databases, computer networks and computer architecture.
Extra points if you know C# but any modern object-oriented programming language like Java, C++ or Python will do.
This position requires skills in SQL development and relational databases, database design and query/performance. We mostly use Microsoft SQL Server but experience with any modern RDMS is fine.
You’ll need experience with one or more modern web backend frameworks like ASP.NET Core, Spring Boot/MVC, Django, Ruby on Rails (experience directly with ASP.NET Core and ASP.NET 4.x is a huge plus!).
You’ll also need to be able to build JSON/XML RESTful APIs and manage your code with Git.
Additional skills that are useful are previous experience or familiarity with an enterprise service bus or integration engines as well as cloud PaaS providers like Azure or AWS.
Front end developer skills with JavaScript/Typescript, CSS, Angular or other modern front-end framework (React/Vue) and experience working with an agile/scrum environment are a plus.
Familiarity with SSRS or any reporting engine or writing tests such as unit tests, integration test, automated UI tests is also useful.
