DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining CAD systems to ensure reliable operations for public safety communications.

Key duties include troubleshooting application and interface issues, applying configuration changes, supporting integrations with systems like RMS and mobile units, and performing routine maintenance such as geo-file updates and backups.

The role also involves adhering to security standards, documenting processes, assisting with vendor coordination, and providing user support during incidents and critical events.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor and maintain Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems to ensure uptime and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot application, client, and interface issues for dispatch and call-taking operations.
  • Apply approved configuration changes, including jurisdiction, unit types, and geo-file updates.
  • Support integrations with related systems (RMS, mobile data terminals, AVL, NCIC/TCIC).
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as backups, patching, and scheduled jobs.
  • Assist with data extracts, ad-hoc queries, and validation of message queues and file transfers.
  • Follow CJIS and agency security protocols for access control and audit compliance.
  • Document processes, maintain runbooks, and provide user support during incidents and critical events.
  • Coordinate with vendors for escalated issues, hotfixes, and legacy system updates.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for priority incidents and planned maintenance windows.


WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort in a normal office environment.


Extended work hours may be required due to situational emergencies, such as critical systems failures or extended installation times. If designated TIER 1, the successful candidate may be required to stay at the Emergency Center during major events, such as severe storms.

Requirements

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems (MIS) or a closely related field.

Application-Specific technical certifications may be considered for substitution for 1 year of experience.


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

At least three (3) years of technology experience creating or configuring software applications.

Related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.


LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to obtain CJIS Certification.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. **
