What you will be doing:This position is responsible for functionally managing operations of airport terminals, adjacent aircraft parking, and landside areas.

This includes seasonal and daily air carrier scheduling of Airport operated aircraft gates and remote parking spots used by more than 30 air carriers.

Who we are looking for:To be successful in this position, the selected applicant will possess the following core competencies:

  • Airport Operations: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, methods, and procedures of airfield, air terminal, commercial or general aviation, landside functions and operations, and security operations subject to FAA, TSA, state or military rules and regulations.
  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
  • Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Requirements

Two years experience resolving aircraft operating area (AOA) issues and experience involving commercial or general aviation operations, terminal operations, landside operations, or overseeing snow removal and airport and runway safety operations, subject to FAA, state, or military rules and regulations.

The required experience includes work such as an Airport Operations Officer with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.(NOTE: Qualifying military experience must reflect ground, airside and landside operations control experience to be considered qualifying or equivalent.)Special Note:If an incumbent is required to use a firearm to assist in controlling wildlife hazards at the airport, he or she must be able to comply with the federal Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997 (PL 104-208).

Any person convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence is ineligible for appointment to a position that requires the use or possession of a firearm or ammunition.Candidates for this class must be eligible for an airport identification badge in accordance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations (49 CFR 1542), which requires fingerprinting and a background check.Employees are subject to recall.Employees are required to possess a current Alaska driver's license.Employees may be required to maintain first aid certification.
