The King County International Airport is seeking a term-limited-temporary (TLT) Airport Communications Specialist I!

The Airport Communication Specialist I plays a key role in supporting the safe, transparent, and efficient operation of airport activities.

This position is responsible for monitoring charter flight operations, coordinating communication with internal and external stakeholders, supporting community engagement efforts, and ensuring accurate and timely public information.

This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing high-quality customer service.

ABOUT KING COUNTY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (BOEING FIELD)

KCIA is one of the busiest primary non-hub general aviation airports in the nation. Located just four miles south of downtown Seattle, it averages 180,000 aircraft operations each year.

KCIA ranks among the most successful public investments in state history.

The airport's annual economic impact is $3.5 billion - supporting more than 16,000 jobs and providing $1.8 billion in labor income in the county.

KCIA promotes the health of the aviation industry by establishing pipelines for employment and for employee development.

As a general aviation airport, KCIA serves small, commercial passenger airlines, cargo carriers, including UPS, private aircraft owners, helicopters, corporate jets, and military and other aircraft.

It is also the final delivery center for the Boeing Company's 737 aircraft and serves as the company's military flight center along with other Boeing operations.

The Museum of Flight is located on the airport property with a wide variety of aircraft and exhibits showcasing aviation history.

KCIA frequently is host to celebrities and dignitaries, who prefer Boeing Field because of its proximity to downtown Seattle and convenient connections to other business districts in the region.

Due to its proximity to Lumen Field, T-Mobile Park, and other sports venues, many teams prefer to use KCIA when playing in Seattle.

Requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, you must at a minimum, demonstrate the knowledge, skill, and ability to:

Flight Monitoring & Reporting

  • Record and monitor all charter flight activity entering and departing the airport, including but not limited to sports team charters, federal government charters, and immigration, and customs enforcement flights.
  • Count and document the number of passengers boarding and deplaning each flight.
  • Ensure all charter flight operations comply with airport rules, regulations, and established procedures.
  • Log all flight information and update the airport website within seven days of each flight.

Partner Communication

  • Distribute notifications to interested and affected parties when flights are scheduled.
  • Send Everbridge alerts and Government Delivery notices as required.
  • Maintain clear, timely, and accurate communication with airport tenants, community partners, and internal staff.

Community Engagement

  • Participate in airport open houses, roundtables, and other community outreach events.
  • Develop informational flyers, brochures, and other materials to educate community members and airport tenants about airport operations and initiatives.

Customer Service & Administrative Support

  • Provide front-desk customer service at the airport reception area as needed, offering courteous and professional assistance to visitors and callers.
  • Support general administrative tasks related to communications, documentation, and public engagement.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Can manage multiple tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Have the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies and community members.
  • Are experienced in customer service, communications, or administrative support preferred.
  • Have familiarity with aviation operations or public-sector communications is a plus.

Work schedule: This position is scheduled to work 40 hours a week, Tuesday – Saturday, onsite. This is not a hybrid position.

This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and therefore is overtime eligible. Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule, every other Thursday.
