Full Job Description

This AIRMAN AND FAMILY READINESS SPECIALIST is located the Force Support Squadron, Mission Support Group of an Air National Guard Wing and is part of the CA 129 RQW.

AIRMAN AND FAMILY READINESS SPECIALIST, GS-0301-9: Must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-07 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government.

This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector, but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the GS grade indicated.

Specialized experience may have been demonstrated by performing duties such as: Analyzes ongoing family services evaluation program and provides recommendations to resolve problems of overlap, duplication or conflict and to ensure effective goals and objectives are accomplished.

Identifies service member and family issues that require exploration, development, and resolutions, and determines appropriate methods and resources.

THIS IS A T5 EXCEPTED SERVICE, INDEFINITE POSITION Indefinite appointment cannot exceed 5 years.

Selectee may be non-competitively converted to permanent status if/when funding becomes available or position becomes unencumbered.

The primary purpose of the AIRMAN AND FAMILY READINESS SPECIALIST, GS-0301-9, is to serve as the family readiness and support services representative at an ANG Wing and coordinate concurrently with the Force Support Squadron Commander/Human Resource Officer (Director of Personnel (DP)) at each wing, Joint Force Headquarters - State (JFHQ-ST) Family Program Director, NGB Family Programs Office, and US Air Force/Major Command (MAJCOM) Family Readiness Directors.

The incumbent provides assistance to the Wing leadership in the development and implementation of a family readiness and support program and provide family readiness assistance at the geographic separated unit(s) (GSU).

Assists the Air National Guard Wing leadership in the development and implementation of a family readiness and support program.

Provides advice and assistance to accommodate family needs during full or partial unit mobilizations and to alleviate concern of unit members about family welfare in the event of mobilization.

Provides advice and assistance to the unit leadership in identifying and addressing family issues and demographic trends, which impact mission readiness and retention.

Coordinates information for seminars, conferences, and orientation workshops as appropriate for family members and volunteers. Conducts briefings and training for family members and volunteers.

Reports on family readiness and support program status and concerns, as well as special upcoming programs and events.

Provides plans that maximize readiness and support resources for unit family member assistance during day-to-day operations.

Assesses, identifies, and determines Wing/GSU family issues, trends, needs, program priorities, and program effectiveness through utilization of appropriate research methods and resources.

Required Identifies Wing family needs and concerns and presents appropriate plans, and recommendations to facilitate family readiness and support decisions.

Analyzes Wing family readiness and support budget functions and provide recommendations to resolve existing or forecasted shortages.

The position resides within the infrastructure and support functions of the state National Guard; the incumbent is not subject to mobilization, nor is the work described part of the military mission; and the incumbent does not perform a key advisory or essential administrative role that is inherently military.

In addition, the position must meet one of the following: It does not have a comparable military function; the position is required in full-time (civilian) role when the organization, or similar military position, is mobilized to perform continuing post-mobilization functions; or the position requires a skill or competency that necessitates technical expertise or professional qualifications that cannot be readily found in the military structure of the state military force.
