Summary

Key Requirements

  • For E13 level: Three years of piloting experience with single/multi-engine fixed-wing aircraft or helicopters, and 1,000 total flying hours (at least 200 in the last two years)
  • High school education or equivalent
  • Ability to fly in all weather conditions while maintaining passenger safety

Full Job Description

The Mackinac Bridge on a sunny day with blue skies and trees in the forefront with the MDOT logo and the MDOT webpage address.

This position performs professional piloting of state-owned aircraft for the transportation of the Governor, legislature, judiciary, state agencies and approved passengers. Includes the requirement to fly single-engine piston and/or light twin engine un-pressurized aircraft with 5 or less passenger seating, or as pilot-in-command, or co-pilot on the pressurized turbine powered aircraft and high-performance turbo-prop aircraft, in all weather conditions while maintaining passenger safety, confidence and comfort.

This position engages in preparation and presentation of aviation safety related topics to targeted groups. This position is considered safety sensitive in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the experienced (E12) level through the maximum rate at the advanced (13) level. Based on education and experience, candidates will be reviewed to determine what level they are qualified for.

Requirements

Education
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.
Experience
Aircraft Pilot E12
Two years of experience piloting single and/or multi-engine fixed wing aircraft or helicopters and completion of 750 hours flying time, not less than 200 hours of which must have been gained within the last two years.
Aircraft Pilot 13
Three years of experience piloting single and/or multi-engine fixed wing aircraft or helicopters and completion of 1,000 hours flying time, not less than 200 hours of which must have been gained within the last two years.

Additional Information

To be considered for this Aircraft Pilot E12 position you must:
  • Possess a current commercial pilot certificate with instrument and multi-engine ratings
  • Possess a valid first or second class FAA medical certification
To be considered for this Aircraft Pilot 13 position you must:
  • Possess a current commercial pilot certificate with instrument and multi-engine ratings
  • Possess a valid first or second class FAA medical certification

This position is a Test-Designated Position.
