Job Description

Summary

This job involves maintaining and repairing F-22 aircraft engines, including assembling, disassembling, troubleshooting, and testing components to keep military planes in top condition.

It's a hands-on role in the Air National Guard, working in hangars and on runways in Hawaii, often in tough weather or with hazardous materials.

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC (F-22), Position Description Number D1635000 and is part of the HI 154 MXS, National Guard.

LOCATION: 154th Maintenance Squadron, Hawaii Air National Guard, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii If your resume does not include a narrative description of how you meet the GENERAL, SPECIALIZED experiences, and OTHER requirements, you may lose consideration for this position.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the ability to perform assembly and disassembly operations and make prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories in accordance with technical specifications, procedures and requirements.

Experience using hand and power tools common to the trade.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 18 months experience or training performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories.

Experience or training performing maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft engines, engine components, and power trains for fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft.

Experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical record, and by own diagnosis. PHYSICAL EFFORTS: The incumbent is required to stand, stoop, bend, and reach.

The incumbent frequently lifts equipment and components weighing up to 10 pounds, and often lifts and carries assemblies weighing up to 50 pounds.

Hoists, hand trucks, lifts, and other employees are available to assist when handling heavy or awkward items.

Work assignments require the employee to climb steps and ladders and stand on slippery or inclined surfaces.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work assignments are performed indoors and outdoors in inclement weather; on icy, wet, and slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces, or work stands; and in extreme temperature and humidity.

The incumbent is subject to dangers from toxic fumes, dust, dirt, grease, lubricants, paints, and solvents and is required to wear protective clothing when required.

Dangers also involve high-pressure air and fluids, and fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces such as landing gear, speed brakes, and flaps.

Work assignments are subject to engine noise, heat blast, intake suction, rotating propellers, explosive munitions, electrical voltage, cartridge actuating devices, liquid oxygen, and flammable and/ or explosive aircraft fuels, etc.

There is frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, burns, electrical shock, strains, and bone fractures.

Other Requirements: For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT & NOTES: 1.

Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position. 2.

This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.

An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. 3.

MILITARY TECHNICIAN COMPATIBILITY POSITION: Prior to placement in this position, the selected applicant must be assigned to an appropriate military position and must meet the definition of a dual status technician in accordance with 32 U S C 709.

NOTES TO CANDIDATES: a. Situations of inversion of military rank are not permitted, i.e., a military technician may not be militarily senior to his or her full-time supervisor. b.

Authorization for payment of PCS expenses may be granted only after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Hawaii National Guard. c.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The primary purpose of this position is to maintain, troubleshoot, remove, repair, install, certify, test and perform operational checks on the turboprop engines, propellers, and associated propulsion system components.

Removes, installs, certifies, repairs, modifies, overhauls, and installs turboprop engines, reduction gear boxes, turbine modules, compressor modules, auxiliary power units, propellers and related propeller components as required.

Modifies engines, propellers, auxiliary power units, and components in accordance with Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTO) directives; removes and installs engine quick change kits; prepares engines for installation and installs engine and propeller assemblies on aircraft.

Performs operational checks of installed propellers, engines, auxiliary power units and sub-systems during aircraft maintenance ground runs in accordance with approved checklists.

Performs isochronal and special evaluations on engines, propellers and auxiliary power units. Interprets certification findings and determines adequacy of corrective action.

Performs aircraft full power runs and complete engine and propeller efficiency checks.

Prepares man-hour data collection and required forms for input into the Core Automated Maintenance System (CAMS) or the G081 (AFI 22-2101, CAMS for Mobility).

Maintains bench stock, parts, and equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.
