Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team that inspects, repairs, and maintains military aircraft to keep them flight-ready, while also handling personnel matters and ensuring safety.

It's a unique role combining full-time civilian work with part-time military reserve duties, including monthly weekend training.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on aircraft repair experience, strong leadership skills, and the ability to meet both civilian and military commitments.

Key Requirements

Full Job Description

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service.

In addition, ARTs are required to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Knowledge of personnel management policies, practices, and procedures, including sexual harassment and Equal Employment Opportunity / Equal Employment Treatment.

Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Knowledge in using and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools, equipment, and precision measuring and/or test equipment.

Knowledge in troubleshooting, inspecting, and/or tracing hard-to-locate defects or problems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications.

Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission. Ability to implement sound personnel policies, practices, and procedures.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: May be required to fly in commercial and military aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required for the position.

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements.

Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA).

The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent maybe assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance. This is a testing designated position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing.

FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy lifting (45-79 pounds). Moderate carrying (15-44 lbs). Hours of straight pulling are 1 hour per week. Hours of pushing are I hour per week. Reaching above shoulder.

Use of fingers. Both hands required. Hours of walking are 4 hours per week. Hours of standing are 10 hours per week. Hours of crawling are I hour per week.

Hours of kneeling are 1 hour per week Hours of repeated bending are 3 hours per week. Climbing, use of legs and arms. Both legs required.

Operation of crane; truck, tractor, or motor vehicle may be required. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.

Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger I to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Both eyes required. Depth perception.

Ability to distinguish basic colors. Hearing (with aid). ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Outside and inside (other than normal commuting). Excessive noise, intermittent. Constant noise. Electrical energy.

The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as shift supervisor for all flight line maintenance activities, enforcing schedules, and directing work priorities over various skilled mechanics.

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. DUTIES: DUTY 1: Performs work planning responsibilities.

The expediter is responsible for the quality, quantity and timeliness of work performance, and therefore, must plan and prioritize availability of all resources, to include personnel, equipment, materials, tools, facilities and aircraft.

DUTY 2: Performs work direction responsibilities. Assigns work to individuals and provides technical direction and/or help in accomplishing difficult work steps and processes.

DUTY 3: Performs administration responsibilities. Advises employees of performance expectations and explains new work techniques, as required.

Reserve Training: Administers the reserve training and associated programs for the shift ensuring consistent standards throughout the section for traditional reservists and ARTs.
