The purpose of the Aircraft Mechanic I position is to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of aircraft by performing routine maintenance, inspections, and basic repairs under supervision.
This position assists senior maintenance personnel in ensuring aircraft are maintained in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, manufacturer specifications, and South Carolina Aeronautics Commission policies, while developing the technical skills, judgment, and experience necessary for progression within the aircraft maintenance profession with the goal of becoming a licensed Aircraft Airframe & Power plant (A&P) mechanic.
The position also supports the upkeep and safe operation of aeronautics facilities.
The employee may perform basic, hands-on facility maintenance tasks such as minor repairs, routine inspections, and general upkeep of hangars, maintenance areas, and support spaces, including offices.
More complex facility maintenance issues-including those involving specialized systems such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or structural components-are addressed through coordination with qualified trades personnel, contractors, or other appropriate service providers.
Responsibilities of Aircraft Mechanic I:
Assist with routine aircraft maintenance tasks, including basic inspections, servicing, and minor repairs, under direct supervision and in accordance with FAA regulations, manufacturer guidance, and Commission procedures.
Assist with the completion and organization of maintenance records, work orders, and logbook entries in compliance with FAA and Commission requirements.
Perform basic facility maintenance tasks and support coordination of more complex maintenance activities with qualified trades, contractors, or service providers.
Adhere to all safety practices, FAA regulations, and Commission policies while demonstrating professionalism and teamwork.
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required and work experience directly related to the area of employment. Must have or be able to obtain a valid South Carolina driver's license.
