This job involves working as an aircraft mechanic for the Air Force Reserve, where you'll handle tasks like installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, and testing major parts of military aircraft, such as landing gear, engines, and hydraulic systems.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Air Reserve Technician performing such duties as removing, installing, adjusting, aligning, inspecting, troubleshooting and performing final functional and operational tests on a variety of major aircraft systems, their assemblies and components such as airframe, landing gear, pumps and hydraulics.
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Federal Wage System Qualifications.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications for the WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family (https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/federal-wage-system-qualifications/#url=WG-8800).
To qualify, there is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate enough experience in your application to show you possess sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform such duties as installing, adjusting, aligning, inspecting, troubleshooting and performing final functional and operational tests on a variety of major aircraft systems, their assembles and components such as airframe, landing gear, power plant, gear boxes, pumps and hydraulic, pressurization, utility, fuel, oil, pneumatic and flight control systems and provide training to reservists in the accomplishment of tasks.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1.
Ability to do the work of Aircraft Mechanic without more than normal supervision. (Screen Out Element). 2.
Knowledge of make-up, operation, installation and adjustment of a variety of interrelated and/or integrated aircraft systems, subsystems and assemblies including but not limited to fuel and hydraulic systems, flight control systems, instrumentation systems, engines, landing gear assemblies, airframe and control surfaces.
3. Knowledge of technical practices associated with the aircraft mechanic trade. 4.
Ability to use and maintain specialized tools and test equipment to include fixtures, templates, scales, test stands and external power sources. 5.
Skill in reading, and understanding instructions, schematics and diagrams, specifications, blueprints, technical orders, data and settings from aircraft instruments and gauges. 6.
Ability to rig, operationally test and/or troubleshoot systems; determine when they are operating properly or whether portions of the system should be repaired or replaced and the type and extent of adjustment and alignment needed.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy lifting (80 pounds and over). Heavy carrying (45 pounds and over). Hours of walking are approximately 4 per day.
Hours of standing are approximately 4 hour per day. Reaching above shoulder. Use of fingers. Both hands required. Climbing, use of legs and arms. Both legs required.
Operation of special purpose and/or motor vehicle. Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other.
Both eyes required. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to distinguish shades of color. Hearing (with or without aid permitted).

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Work is performed in hanger areas, outdoors, in parked aircraft and sometimes in hazardous noise areas. Exposed to extremes in heat, cold, humidity and inclement weather.
Must work in confined areas and in awkward positions. Exposed to dirt, grease and aircraft fluids (oil, hydraulic fluid, sealants, solvents and hazardous fluids and gases).
Potentially exposed to Hydrazine and Halon and/or composites and Low Observable (LO). Subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strain and injury from falls off scaffolds, ladders and aircraft surfaces.
Slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Working around machinery with moving parts. Working around moving objects or vehicles. May be exposed to intake suction and hot exhaust blast.
Working closely with other. Working alone. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.
You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:
1. Perform inspection and troubleshooting on a variety of aircraft systems, their assemblies and components. 2.
Positions, maintains, disassembles, repairs and reassembles aircraft systems, their assemblies and components in accordance with applicable technical orders and specifications. 3.
Accomplishes aircraft maintenance and equipment record keeping, both manual and automated associated with aircraft maintenance and repair. 4.
Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clear work area. 5.
Verifies and certifies work processes and procedures and adequacy of work accomplished by certified co-workers and trainees.
