Job Description

Summary

This job involves supporting aircraft operations at a naval base by guiding planes on the ground, refueling and servicing them, and performing safety inspections before and after flights.

It's a hands-on role for someone who works well independently and has experience handling aircraft equipment and hazardous materials.

A good fit would be a detail-oriented person with practical skills in aviation ground support, comfortable in a fast-paced outdoor environment.

Key Requirements

  • Ability to direct aircraft using hand signals for taxiing, parking, and ground operations without more than normal supervision
  • Experience servicing transient aircraft with fuel, oil, oxygen, hydraulics, and nitrogen
  • Skill in operating follow-me vehicles and using two-way radios to escort aircraft per control tower instructions
  • Proficiency in conducting pre-flight and post-flight inspections of aircraft exteriors and completing related forms
  • Knowledge of cleaning up oil and fuel spills following HAZMAT guidelines
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations for handling and disposing of hazardous aircraft materials
  • Ability to interpret technical specs for aircraft fluids and position ground equipment safely

Full Job Description

You will serve as a AIRCRAFT ATTENDANT for the NAVAL BASE VENTURA COUNTY.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: 1) Directing aircraft using hand signals to communicate with the aircraft pilot to direct taxiing, parking and aircraft ground operations.

2) Servicing all types of transient aircraft with proper fuel, oil, high/low pressure oxygen, hydraulics and nitrogen.

3) Operating Follow-Me vehicles for escorting aircraft from runways to designated ramp parking spaces upon request by the Control Tower via two-way radio instruction.

4) Conducting aircraft pre-flight and post-flight inspections including a complete inspection of the aircraft exterior, completing applicable servicing check-off forms.

5) Promptly clean up oil and fuel spills on the Air terminal Ramp and dispose of contaminated absorbent following required HAZMAT guidance.

  • You will comply with environmental rules and regulations when storing, using, handling, labeling, or disposing of hazardous aircraft materials and waste.
  • You will interpret technical specifications to determine the type of fuel, hydraulic fluid, engine oil, and other fluids to use according to the type of aircraft being serviced.
  • You will position vehicles and ground support equipment within predefined clearances of aircraft to maintain safety of personnel and equipment.
  • You will use two-way radio communications with a control tower for ground movement on an airfield.
  • You will follow established procedures for hooking aircraft to a tug to tow and maneuver aircraft.
