About the Position: This is a Administrative Support Technician (Office Automation), GS-0303-06, with the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) located in Chicago, IL.

The Military Entrance Processing Station plays a vital role in maintaining the nation's military might by ensuring that each new member of the Armed Forces meet the high mental, moral & medical standards required by the DoD and the military services.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and/or education requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Providing administrative support such as maintaining files, calendars, and screening telephone calls.

AND 2) Preparing office correspondence. AND 3) Utilizing office automation software to prepare various types of documents.

AND 4) provide support on various human resources matters such as time and attendance, recruitment, and awards.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9.

(Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Typing Proficiency: This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.

Major Duties:

  • Provide staff with guidance on how to properly operate within office procedures.
  • Maintain calendars for staff.
  • Maintain a suspense log for all actions in accordance to office procedures.
  • Prepare Request for Personnel Actions for submission using automated systems.
  • Create a variety of reports for submission to higher headquarters using a variety of office software packages.
