Summary

This role involves teaching practical courses on industrial mechanical maintenance to adult learners at a community college, covering topics like tools, safety, pumps, and hydraulics through classroom and hands-on lab sessions.

Instructors ensure safe facilities, evaluate student progress, and deliver engaging demonstrations.

It's ideal for experienced maintenance professionals who enjoy mentoring others and have some background in training or education.

Key Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or certificate in industrial technology, plus at least 3 years of industrial maintenance experience, or 5 years of mechanical maintenance experience with troubleshooting, repair, and training responsibilities
  • Extensive knowledge in mechanical maintenance topics including fasteners, tools, precision measuring, blueprint reading, safety, rigging, bearings, lubrication, gearboxes, pumps, alignment, valves, piping, hydraulics, and pneumatics
  • Ability to teach and convey technical knowledge effectively to adult learners
  • Prior teaching, training, or workforce instruction experience preferred
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Relevant professional certifications or licenses preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in an industrial field preferred

Midlands Technical College’s Corporate and Continuing Education (CCE) Division is seeking experienced Industrial Mechanical Maintenance professionals to serve as adjunct instructors for contract and open-enrollment training cohorts.

Provide instruction for the Industrial Mechanical Maintenance program. Instructors will teach the following courses: Applied Math, Fasteners & Anchors, Hand & Power Tools, Precision Measuring, Blueprint Reading, Safety & Rigging Fundamentals, Basic Mechanical Components, Bearings & Lubrication, Gearboxes, Pumps, Shaft Alignment, Valves & Piping, and Hydraulics & Pneumatics. Responsibilities include maintaining a comprehensive, safe program and facilities; training students to safely and effectively operate equipment; ensuring the readiness of facilities for class activities; teaching classroom and laboratory classes; evaluation and reporting of students’ progress and laboratory performance; assigning and assisting students on class projects; creating and delivering lecture demonstrations; ensuring smooth and safe operation of the teaching space; and adhere to course schedules. Basic computer knowledge is required.
This position is located on the Midlands Technical College Airport Campus.

Requirements

Associate’s degree or certificate in an industrial technology program, with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in an industrial maintenance operation; OR five (5) years of mechanical maintenance experience including responsibility for equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and mentoring/training others. The Candidate must have extensive experience, knowledge, and training along with the ability to convey that knowledge to adult learners.

Qualifications

Prior teaching, training, or workforce instruction experience; Industrial manufacturing, power plant, or mechanical contractor experience; Familiarity with continuing education programs; Relevant professional certifications and/or licenses. Bachelor’s degree in an industrial field.

Additional Information

Adjunct faculty are compensated in accordance with Midlands Technical College’s established pay schedule. Final compensation may vary depending on academic credentials and total course credit hours. Any variation is determined upon hire and outlined in the faculty employment agreement.
