We are looking to grow our MPCF team with people who share our energy and enthusiasm for making those missions a reality every single day.The Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility is a minimum custody, male facility that houses approximately 1100 incarcerated individuals. Our goal is to offer treatment, recreation, education, and work opportunities in a secure environment in order to prepare Incarcerated Individuals for their entry back into the neighborhoods of Iowa.Activities Specialist 2We are excited to share this opportunity at MPCF and are looking for someone who is security minded, excels in communication skills, both verbal and written and who is energetic and ethical.This candidate needs to have initiative and intuition, and be able to use those skills with autonomy when making decisions.The MPCF Activities Specialist 2 is responsible for organizing and supervising activities for our incarcerated individuals 7 days per week, which does include evenings and some weekends. They will oversee activities and programs for various areas within the institution, including 2 yards, a gym, a library, a recreation hall and our minimum-live out facility. Our Activity Department has a great impact on the safety of both incarcerated individuals and staff by providing activities to engage incarcerated individuals in productive and pro-social endeavors. Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in art, the behavioral/social sciences, industrial therapy, music, occupational therapy, physical education, recreation, rehabilitation, therapeutic recreation, or other closely related fields and experience equal to two years of full-time professional work in an activities program;
OR
an equivalent combination of graduate education in one of the above fields and professional qualifying experience substituting a maximum of thirty semester hours for one year of the required experience;
OR
qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education in any equivalent combination on the basis of one year of experience for each thirty-semester hours (or equivalent) of education to a maximum of four years;
OR
employees with
current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to eighteen months of full-time work as an Activities Specialist 1.
