The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of duties encompassing classifying accounting transactions; maintaining and reconciling accounts; closing accounts and preparing reports statements; analyzing accounting data; and examining accounts.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/31/2026.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.
An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.
In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Specialized Experience: You must possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service, that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) needed to successfully perform the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to this Accounting Technician position to be filled?
Specialized experience includes: Experience with accounting principles, methods, procedures and techniques; experience validating transactions; experience examining accounts to analyze and detect trends and problems; experience using various accounting system software package applications and computer systems to resolve problems of processed transactions; experience using spreadsheets.
This experience must be supported by your resume to be creditable.

Major Duties:
The Accounting Technician performs accounting transactions that may include verifying the accuracy and completeness of the accounting data, determining the general ledger accounts, journals, and subsidiary accounts affected and the debit and credit entries to be made and may summarize transactions and prepare control documents or other posting documents reflecting the entries to be made.
The primary duties of the Accounting Technician may include but are not limited to: Balances and reconciles reports, statements, summaries and trial balances Receives and reviews a wide variety of obligation documents to include purchase orders, contracts, travel orders Advises Lead Accounting Technician or higher graded accountants of extraordinary or recurring problems.
Coordinates the input and output accounting requirements with serviced program areas. Distributes systems generated accounting output.
Reconciles transactions by others (TBO) vouchers to determine accuracy of input for assigned program directors. Reviews accounting data to determine the accuracy of supporting information provided.
Obtains additional information, prepares necessary worksheets or reports reflecting the type of examination made Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM subject to change based on the needs of the facility Telework: This position may be authorized for telework.
