Job Description

Summary

This role involves handling accounting tasks for the Department of Defense, mainly reviewing and fixing financial records related to payments for transportation services from outside vendors.

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-6) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as: experience such as evaluating and reconciling financial accounts for payment to third party vendors for transportation services.

Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement.

Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-6 or higher grade in Federal Service.

** The effective date of your SF-50 must reflect that you will meet the 52-week time in grade requirement within 30 days of the announcement closing.

** You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.

Major Duties:

  • Provides accounting technician support such as evaluating and reconciling accounts for payment to third-party vendors for transportation services.
  • Reviews and processes difficult or complex reconciliation accounting transactions ensuring accuracy and validity of supporting documentation and determines the appropriate account and method for processing.
  • Conducts substantial research of accounts, historical data, and source documents to identify discrepancies and make necessary adjustments.
  • Provides guidance to internal and external customers on difficult transactions to answer questions regarding procedures, policies and directives.
  • Verifies, balances and reconciles supporting documentation files with automated listings and reports to develop and explain detailed information not otherwise readily available.
  • Reviews financial postings to ensure entries are valid and recommends appropriate corrective actions as needed.
  • Prepares memoranda or letters responding to inquiries explaining various aspects of accounting and providing detailed and technical explanations of reconciliation discrepancies.
