As an Accounting Technician III with the Bureau for Public Health, Central Finance Office, you will serve as a critical link in the state’s financial operations by ensuring every medical invoice is mathematically precise and fully HIPAA compliant. Your primary focus involves meticulously auditing billing records and processing them directly through the wvOasis State Financial System while maintaining comprehensive documentation to support a clear audit trail. Beyond data entry, you will manage a master vendor file to track payment history and provide essential updates to both internal and external partners. By recording patient payment information into supplemental databases, you will empower program staff to monitor authorized services effectively. In this role, you may be entrusted with a state purchasing card to resolve outstanding financial issues and must consistently align your work with established State and Department policies.

Qualifications

Training: Graduation from a standard four-year high school or the equivalent.

Experience: Three years of full time or equivalent part time paid bookkeeping, accounting or related experience.
Substitution: Successful completion of college-level accounting courses from an regionally accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of three semester hours equals six months experience;
OR
Successful completion of related business school or vocational training may be substituted for the experience through an established formula.
