Position Summary:

The Accounting Division of the Office of the CFO is seeking an Accounting Supervisor to manage the Financial Reporting section.

The primary focus of this position is to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), and to manage the City-wide external financial audit to meet critical deadlines.

The Accounting Supervisor will lead a staff of 5 accountants and provide direction and leadership in a wide variety of city-wide accounting processes.

Assignments require the use of independent judgment on broad range of accounting issues that are complex, interpretive, and evaluative in nature.

The supervisor regularly collaborates with and advises city bureaus and management on matters of accounting practice and internal controls, and also works closely with the Enterprise Business Support (EBS) team in matters relating to the SAP systems application.

All work is performed under the supervision of the City Controller.


Responsibilities Include:
  • Ensure equitable service delivery to a wide range of internal and external customers
  • Recommend accounting process and system improvements
  • Plan and execute continual improvement initiatives
  • Monitor team performance in accordance with the Division’s vision and goals

Requirements

The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
  1. Experience applying the principles and practices of governmental accounting and financial reporting as well as applicable accounting standards and procedures, including GAAP, GASB, and FASB.
  1. Experience preparing clear, concise, and comprehensive financial statements, reports, and other written materials, as well as communicating effectively, orally and in writing, to a variety of audiences.
  2. Ability to analyze and make sound recommendations on complex financial operations, procedures and controls, and enhancements to automated accounting systems.
  3. Ability to apply the principles and practices of effective supervision; and plan, assign, coordinate, and review the work of assigned staff.
  4. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP or other large ERP system.

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.

  • Experience working with the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).

Step 5: Offer of Employment: Late April / Early May

Step 6: Start Date: TBD
