The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting

for an Accountant 3/4 located in Anchorage or Juneau, Alaska!


What You Will Be Doing:

This is an exciting opportunity to work in support of a mission of Wildlife Conservation, in an environment filled with diversity with a dedicated team of professionals.

This position serves as the fiscal officer for the Division of Wildlife Conservation and is responsible for providing professional level oversight for finance, grants, and contracts.

The position develops and implements accounting procedures, internal controls, and ensures that accounting information is complete and accurate, financial reports are reliable, and that the Division conducts itself in accordance with applicable state and federal financial laws, regulations, and policies.

This is a flexibly staffed position.

The job is currently located in the beautiful city of Juneau, Alaska with road access to glaciers, trails, skiing, in a diverse city with a great culture.

We are located right next to the Whale monument in the downtown area. We are a hybrid teleworking location with staff working in and out of the office during the week.


The other location is mid-town Anchorage at our main office on Raspberry Road.

We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:

  • Financial Management:(*) Prepares, justifies, and/or administers the budget for program areas; plans, administers, and monitors expenditures to ensure cost-effective support of programs and policies; assesses financial condition of an organization.
  • Federal Funds Processing: Knowledge of methods and procedures for processing direct and reimbursable program funds (for example, automatic and funded reimbursements, interagency agreements, transfer appropriations), grants, loans, and credit programs.
  • Grants Management Laws, Regulations, and Guidelines: Knowledge of principles, laws, regulations, policies, practices, and guidelines (for example, Executive Orders, Code of Federal Regulations, OMB circulars) of grant or agreement programs, including their order of precedence.

Requirements

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in

  • Analysis and Assessment: Uses information technology in accessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information.

  • Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

  • Principles of Accounting: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices (for example, double entry accounting, accrual accounting), including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.

  • Technical Competence: Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible professional level experience in accounting, budgeting, or financial management.

 “Typically gained by” means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.
