Job Description

Summary

This job involves managing and maintaining financial accounts for government departments, including tracking funds, reconciling records, and preparing financial reports, often with unique accounting challenges.

Salary: $4,221 - $5,338 per month (SR-15, Step C to I)

Requirements

Maintains departmental control accounts for appropriated and non-appropriated funds characterized by unusual accounting features; may supervise and participate in the maintenance of program control accounts characterized by unusual accounting features; and performs other duties as required.

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:


Legal Authorization to Work Requirement:

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.


General Experience: Six months of work experience which demonstrated knowledge of arithmetic and spelling, and the ability to follow oral and written directions, write simply and directly, and observe differences in words and numbers quickly and accurately.

Specialized Experience: Four years of work experience involved in posting to accounting records and other systematizing of fiscal information; i.e., computing, classifying and recording numerical data to keep sets of financial accounting records complete and to derive reports there from. Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of standard accounting classification and terminology pertinent to accounts maintenance operations, and office practices and procedures relating to the processing and recording of transactions and accounting information. This work must have involved reconciling accounts (i.e., checking for errors, balancing, and going back to original source document for verification); and the preparation of balance sheets and income statements or financial and/or accounting reports.

Supervisory Aptitude: Some positions require that applicants possess supervisory aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.

Federal Criminal History Records Check (TWIC):
In accordance with Federal regulations, persons who are being considered for employment in positions which require unescorted access to secured areas at the harbor must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint-based criminal history record check. In order to be granted the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) clearance, prospective employees must not have been convicted, or found "not guilty by reason of insanity," of a disqualifying criminal offense within seven years from the date of appointment. Upon recommendation for hire, prospective employees will be required to successfully undergo the fingerprint-based criminal history record check and be found free of disqualifying convictions during the preceding seven years. The cost for the records check will be the applicant's responsibility. However, upon hire, the employee will be reimbursed provided he/she submit the TWIC receipt to his/her supervisor.
