Job Description

Summary

This temporary role at Midlands Technical College involves guiding students through their academic journey by offering advice on classes and finances, tracking their progress, and helping with financial aid applications like the FAFSA.

It also includes recruiting new eligible students each year through campus events and visits to build and maintain a group of participants.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, social sciences, humanities, or a related field
  • Two years of experience providing academic advising, especially to first-generation or income-challenged students

  • Ability to manage a student caseload, including monitoring progress and providing financial literacy education
  • Skills in recruiting, selecting, and assessing needs of eligible students through events and advisement
  • Experience assisting with FAFSA completion and following up on academic outcomes

Full Job Description

  • Manages SSS participant caseload by providing academic advising, assessing academic needs, monitoring students' academic progress, providing financial education/literacy tools, and monitoring financial aid concerns for individual students; assists participants in completing the financial aid form (F AFSA) assesses midterm/end-of-term academic outcomes, following up with participants; coordinates personalized academic services/ strategies; contacts students in caseload each semester.
  • Recruits, selects, and assesses needs of eligible students annually to maintain the caseload required; recruitment may include advisement (course scheduling, registration, etc.), class visits, and campus events.
This position is located on the Midlands Technical College Airport Campus.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree and two (2) years experience with students in higher education.

Qualifications

Bachelor's in education, social sciences, humanities, or field related to academic development/student services; or Master's in education, social sciences, humanities, or field related to skills instruction; 2 years of experience providing advising, particularly to first-generation/income challenged students; experience w/ 2-yr academic programs, college policies, transfer, and financial aid processes.
