Summary

This job involves leading efforts to plan, prevent, and fight wildfires in Pennsylvania's Weiser State Forest, while also managing forest resources and investigating fire causes.

Requirements

As a Wildland Fire Supervisor, you will be responsible for performing technical wildfire analysis and general state forest management throughout Weiser State Forest.

Primary areas of focus will include wildfire planning, preparedness, prevention, suppression, and investigation.

Specific duties entail developing and implementing a Wildfire Resource Plan and prevention plan, implementing prescribed fire plans, and coordinating wildfire prevention programs.


In addition, you will analyze and evaluate data collected during prescribed fires to determine effectiveness, as well as utilize data records from fire incidents to assist in developing strategies for prevention and suppression. You will also conduct thorough wildfire investigations in accordance with department policy, taking appropriate enforcement action as necessary when responsible parties causing wildfires are identified. Within this role, you will also maintain detailed records of costs associated with fire management activities, inclusive of damage appraisals to determine the financial impact of wildfires.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel is required for training, meetings, and for wildland fire assignments.
  • Overtime may be required during emergencies and periods of high fire danger.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 1 day per week.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Halifax. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Twenty-four months of experience as a Wildland Fire Responder (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Twenty-four months of wildland fire prevention and suppression experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes six months of wildland fire prevention and suppression experience.


Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
  • This position requires completion of the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) training at the time of hire.
  • This position requires completion of the NWCG Wildland Fire Observations and Origin Scene Protection for First Responders (FI-110) training within six months from the date of hire.

  • You must possess and maintain a REAL ID or passport for this position. Proof of possession will be needed at the time of a conditional offer of employment.
