This job is for a welding instructor at a technical college in South Carolina, where you'll teach welding classes to students, help them plan their education and careers, and sometimes work evenings or weekends.
It's a great fit for someone with hands-on welding experience who enjoys mentoring beginners and advanced learners in a classroom or high school setting.
You'll also contribute to college events and community outreach to support student success.
The Welding Instructor will provide instruction for Welding courses. Aiken Technical College faculty provide instruction and academic advisement. Class schedules will vary from semester to semester.
Classes may meet in evenings, weekends, or online. Faculty may be asked to work a split schedule (morning and evening classes) as well as teach dual enrollment courses in assigned high schools.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach courses as assigned in accordance with established syllabi.
Prepare, review and maintain courses and programs, syllabi, and instructional materials.
Demonstrate appropriate course and classroom management.
Provides academic guidance, assists students in developing personal, academic and professional plans, and engages in the College’s program recruitment, student retention, and graduation efforts.
Participate in College activities and projects and promote the College through community service.
Participate in activities that will develop the individual’s teaching performance, instructional development, knowledge of subject matter, and/or teaching or subject area qualifications in keeping with the College’s mission and institutional goals.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an Associate’s degree and demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline required. Candidates must demonstrate competencies in the teaching discipline and possess the organizational and communication skills necessary to be an effective instructor.
Candidates forwarded by the search committee will be required to complete a weld demonstration; details will be provided at the time of scheduling.
An Associate’s degree in Welding or a closely related field with at least three (3) years of industry work experience as a welder and/or relevant industry certifications is preferred.
Valid or current credentials, such as AWS CWI or CWE, are highly desirable.
Completion of a federally approved apprenticeship program will also be considered when accompanied by appropriate certifications.
Candidates should possess the aptitude to assist both new and returning students in achieving their educational goals and objectives.
Knowledge and experience in welding theory, metallurgy, mathematics, blueprint reading, oxy-acetylene welding and brazing, SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and FCAW in accordance with AWS and industry standards are preferred.
The ability to communicate effectively, develop programs and curricula that meet industry needs, and demonstrate welding skills consistent with ASME standards applicable to advanced pipe welding is also preferred.
