Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading welding training programs at a naval shipyard in Hawaii, where you'll create lesson plans, teach hands-on skills and safety practices to new welders, and track their progress through reports and counseling.

It's ideal for experienced welders who enjoy teaching and mentoring others in a structured, hands-on environment.

A good fit would be someone with strong practical welding knowledge and the ability to explain complex ideas clearly to trainees.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a WELDER TRAINING LEADER in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT (code 900) of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

  • You will prepare lesson plans, training materials, visual aids for the development of learning through classroom and/or on-the-job.
  • You will teach basic trade theory, principles, concepts, terminology, processes and practices, also information on safety, tools, weld documentation, equipment and materials.
  • You will counsel employees on the day-to-day problems involving trade theory, trade practices, and other related information.
  • You will maintain records and preparing reports, as required, of progress and performance of each trainee, both in work experience onboard shop and in the shop.
