Summary

This job involves leading welding training programs for workers at different skill levels in a naval shipyard, including creating lesson plans, teaching practical skills and safety, and tracking trainee progress.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Welder Training Leader in the Structural and Fabrication Shop in the Production Resource Department (Code 920) of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

  • You will prepare and conduct training sessions under formal trade skill instruction, trade theory instructions for apprentices, helpers, intermediate and journey-level workers.
  • You will prepare lesson plans, training materials, visual aids for the development of learning through classroom and/or on-the-job.
  • You will teach basic trade theory, principles, concepts, terminology, processes and practices, also information on safety, tools, weld documentation, equipment and materials.
  • You will counsel employees on the day-to-day problems involving trade theory, trade practices, and other related information.
  • You will maintain records and preparing reports, as required, of progress and performance of each trainee, both in work experience onboard shop and in the shop.
