Summary

This job involves welding and repairing metal parts on ships and submarines for the U.S. Navy in Bremerton, Washington, using tools like flame and plasma cutters to prepare and join materials.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a WELDER in the Production Department of PSNS and IMF.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

  • You will use flame and plasma arc cutting processes to trim parts before welding to ensure proper alignment or fit, to remove obstructions or to cut materials when necessary, on site.
  • You will prepare surfaces of material to be welded, proper fit up, welding sequences, parameters, proper size, and type of filler materials required for welding projects.
  • You will make welds on all piping, boilers, pressure vessels, structural forms, plate, sheet metal, barstock, castings, forgings, machinery and equipment in the fabrication, assembly and repair of ships and submarines.
  • You will set up preheating and stress relieving equipment, controlling critical Interpass temperature, inspecting joint geometry, and operate portable grinding and finishing equipment.
  • You will lay out work from specifications and oral instructions.
