Full Job Description

The South Carolina Welcome Center Program exists to increase travel expenditures and expand economic development within the state’s tourism industry. Open 361 days a year, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the nine centers are located at key entry points along the state’s border and one strategically placed in the interior in Orangeburg County along I-95 southbound. The centers are closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.

Job Purpose and Duties:

Maintenance Supervisor works to support the day-to-day and deferred maintenance needs of assigned Welcome Centers. Initiates, oversees, and performs maintenance work and repairs for the State Welcome Center Program.

1) Following established safety and operational procedures and guidelines, perform day-to-day maintenance and repair activities at the state welcome centers. Ensures the facility and grounds are safe for traveling public and employees.
2) Manages contracts and vendors for centers including landscaping, pest control, refuse, fire systems and other applicable vendors to ensure a safe and pleasant experience for guests.
3) Following established safety and operational procedures and guidelines, perform deferred maintenance and repair activities at the state welcome centers.
4) Assists in ensuring the maintenance program and its resources are managed and implemented in an efficient and effective manner. Follows all state, agency, and program processes, procedures, operations and laws.
5) Maintains positive working relationships with all visitor services staff and managers, SCPRT staff, contractors, vendors, and other partners to ensure program goals and objectives are met. Promotes a team atmosphere. Serves as a leader in providing a safe, healthy, and pleasing stop with facilities, grounds and services that exceed guest expectations.
6) Practice and promote teamwork within welcome centers and throughout the Agency. Serves as a liaison to business and governmental groups, state industry, etc. Abide by the Agency Code of Conduct.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED. 3+ years in facilities maintenance, grounds and repair, park maintenance, construction or related experience.
Able to manage several projects at a time and coordinate resources across the state.


Additional Requirements:

1) Microsoft Word and Excel proficiency required. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to read and understand prints and specifications. The ability to work independently and as part of a team. Working knowledge of methods and techniques related to maintaining grounds, buildings and related equipment. Able to manage numerous projects at several locations across a distance.
2) Valid SC Drivers License.
3) Frequent in-state travel is required (vehicle provided). Ability to work weekends, evenings, holidays. Must reside within the county of the Welcome Centers assigned to the position or within one of the counties between the assigned centers. Position requires heavy lifting, standing for long periods of time, standing and walking on uneven terrain, crawling, climbing ladders, roof top work, working at heights, and working outdoors. Position requires good problem-solving skills, judgement, and multitasking skills. Position requires people skills and the ability to work with the public at large.


Qualifications

Experience in carpentry, plumbing, and electrical trades preferred.

Additional Information

Actual Job Location:

Full-time, 40 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.

Oversees maintenance at Fort Mill and Blacksburg Welcome Centers. Candidate must live within 50 miles of one of these facilities.
