Key Requirements

  • Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling, counseling psychology, or a related field
  • Experience in vocational rehabilitation or counseling individuals with disabilities
  • Ability to assess client needs and develop individualized rehabilitation plans
  • Skills in case management, including monitoring progress and maintaining records
  • Strong communication and counseling abilities for client interactions and outreach
  • Knowledge of employment services, benefits, and community resources
  • Ability to manage a caseload while meeting production standards

If you enjoy providing counseling and guidance while assisting individuals with disabilities to obtain employment and independence, this is the job for you! The Department of Workforce Services (DWS) is seeking a motivated and highly skilled Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor II to join our Utah State Office of Rehabilitation (USOR) team in Ogden, UT. This will allow you to practice the latest techniques in rehabilitation counseling while developing strong partnerships with other agencies and programs to help clients enter or reenter the labor market.
Principal Duties
The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor II performs the following tasks:
  • Provides clients with information concerning rights, options, benefits, services, goals and expectations.
  • Counsels clients and prospective clients; screens referrals, provides community outreach.
  • Assesses client/patient needs. Develops and implements plans to meet those needs.
  • Reviews client rehabilitation plans, negotiates with client on individual written rehabilitation plan including determination of financial need and available comparable benefits.
  • Ensures progress towards intermediate objectives and vocational goals.
  • Manages caseload to include: processing updates, filling out forms and recording activities; monitoring and achieving caseload production standards, etc.
  • Evaluates client's abilities and disabilities, reviews medical, psychological, vocational, and educational data to determine eligibility, vocational handicap, functional limitations, and job labor market demands.
  • Coordinates client services with appropriate professional and/or specialty clinics.
  • Serves on various boards, councils, committees, or task forces to coordinate agency activities and facilitate agency goals and initiatives.

This position may be under-filled as a Rehabilitation Counselor I or a Rehabilitation Trainee.

  • Rehabilitation Trainee - BS Degree - No work related experience - $20.42.
  • Rehabilitation Counselor I - BS Degree + 1 year work related experience - $22.45.
  • Rehabilitation Counselor II - Masters in VRC or related field + 1 year work related experience - $24.66.
Minimum Requirements
The model applicant for this position is someone who:
  • Has a Bachelors or Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling or a related field of study.
  • Has experience in vocational rehabilitation counseling or providing vocational counseling, employment counseling, job development and placement, career coaching or academic training to individuals with disabilities.
  • Has experience providing direct services to individuals with disabilities.
Preference
Preference points may be given for the following:
  • Current state of Utah employees.
  • One or more years of professional experience in counseling.
