Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S.
Customs and Border Protection, Office of Human Resources Management, Strategic Partnerships and Communication Division, located in Washington, DC.
Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Planning, directing, and producing original visual information and communications products (e.g., publications, presentations, videos, web content, email campaigns) for senior leadership or agency-wide audiences.
Developing, maintaining, and updating office or program web pages and email communications, including posting presentations, articles, speeches, and other content using HTML and web content management systems to effectively reach diverse audiences.
Developing creative visual concepts and integrated communication strategies, from initial client consultation through final delivery, to communicate complex or abstract organizational initiatives.
Creating, editing, and integrating professional-quality digital video, sound, graphics, and written content using Adobe Creative Cloud applications (e.g., Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, InDesign) and other communications tools.
Consulting with senior managers or program officials to clarify communication objectives, identify target audiences, and recommend appropriate visual and written media formats.

In this Visual Information Specialist position you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals involved in developing original designs; utilizing video and animation software packages such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects; experience with virtual meeting platforms and Microsoft Excel to run pivot tables, create formulas, and pull metrics; developing presentations related to broad concepts or abstract ideas that often involve several themes; designing visual products from a multiplicity of media that are both conventional and non-conventional in nature; and stay abreast of DHS and CBP policies, programs, and audience interests, as well as, contemporary methods and trends in internal information and employee communication programs.
Typical work assignments include: Developing informational material that informs appropriate audiences of the agency's activities, plans, policies, programs, and communication programs in furthering CBP goals and objectives.
Consulting with customers in order to determine an appropriate method for communicating important subject matter and facts in a logical and concise manner.
Providing visual information services and content in support of HRM's strategic communication efforts.
Assisting in developing and shaping content for dissemination/publication via multiple communication channels including, but not limited to, SharePoint, Internet posting, social media posting, and print materials.
Planning, designing, and presenting multi-media, visual, and video products using necessary software and ensuring 508-compliance for use in publications and presentations throughout HRM and CBP and for the general public.
