Job Description

Summary

This job involves supporting victims of sexual assault and harassment in the Navy by acting as their main contact, helping them access medical, legal, and emotional care, and coordinating with various agencies to ensure their safety and needs are met.

A good fit would be someone with experience in victim advocacy, a compassionate approach to crisis situations, and knowledge of military or legal systems related to these issues.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-09 level or equivalent, including providing sexual assault and harassment victim advocacy services

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Victim Advocate (SAPR) in the Fleet and Family Readiness Department of NAVSTA GTMO.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing sexual assault and sexual harassment victim advocacy services; 2) Developing and implementing crisis plans of actions and sexual assault assistance plans; and 3) Coordinating victim services (e.g.

medical, legal, mental health, and investigative) with various agencies by applying knowledge of military, Department of Defense (DoD), the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) Program, local, state, and federal laws, and military regulations pertaining to victims of sexual assault.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will serve as the primary initial point of contact for victims of sexual assault and sexual harassment and work closely with the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) to ensure comprehensive care for victims throughout the reporting process.
  • You will facilitate are and providing non-clinical support to adult victims of a sexual assault and sexual harassment.
  • You will assess the safety of sexual harassment complainants who wish to confer with a victim advocate.
  • You will assist victims reporting sexual harassment to address any immediate safety needs, understand their sexual assault reporting options (as applicable), and identify any behavioral health or other services that may be helpful.
  • You will explain all available SAPR services to the victim and conduct a warm hand-off to the equal opportunity office for official reporting of sexual harassment.
  • You will establish liaisons with local victim support agencies in order to gain support and cooperation in achieving support for victims of sexual harassment and to promote the enhancement of sexual harassment services.
  • You will conduct SAPR training for healthcare professionals, chaplains, judge advocates, law enforcement and other stakeholders on SAPR reporting options, and policies and procedures that support sexual assault victims.
