Vector Control Inspector I: $3,606 to $4,563 per month (SR-11, Step C to I)
Vector Control Inspector II: $3,900 to $4,933 per month (SR-13, Step C to I)

Requirements

The Vector Control Inspector series involve work in the inspection, investigation, education and enforcement activities relating to the control and/or extermination of mosquitoes, rodents and other small mammals, flies, fleas and other insects which are injurious to human health and comfort, or harmful to domestic animals.

Level I serves in a trainee capacity, attending training sessions, reading manuals, receiving on-the-job instructions in the interpretation of environmental health laws, rules and regulations with emphasis on vectors of public health significance, control methods and applications, etc.; participates in routine work assignments in premises inspection, investigation, education and enforcement activities in the vector control program; and perform other duties as required.

Level II independently performs the full range of work assignments in the vector control program; and perform other duties as required.

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Legal Authorization Work:
The State of Hawaii requires all person seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Education Requirement: Graduation from high school, or equivalent. One year of work experience requiring the ability to read, comprehend and apply written directions or a high degree of verbal skill may be substituted for the Education Requirement. This requirement may be met from part-time and/or unpaid work. There must, however, be evidence that participation was on a continuous basis but not necessarily on a full-time normal work basis.

Specialized Experience: No experience for Level I, and for Level II, one (1) year of progressively responsible work experience which involved inspecting premises for evidence of various pests and vectors; recommending and initiating necessary corrective activities or other work experience in the field of public health which has given the applicant knowledge of general sanitation and vector-control measures.

Substitutions Allowed: Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements, will apply.

Driver's License: Some positions require possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
