DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides for effective maintenance and operation of the water and wastewater utility at various locations. Utilizes troubleshooting skills to address utility operations and maintenance. May operate equipment or perform tasks that do not require specialized licenses. Operates and maintains sampling instruments and perform field analysis of water samples. Collects, preserves, sends, and transports samples to laboratory for analysis. Operates valves and flushes hydrants to address water quality issues. Prepares and maintains reports, forms, and records for operations, assignments, service calls, maintenance and repairs of equipment and tools, and/or sampling activity utilizing a data tracking system. Operates centrifuge or dryer in sludge process. Performs maintenance tasks related to the operation of wastewater treatment facilities. Isolates water lines by operation valves and reviewing GIS to determine valve locations. Renews utility services to designated areas. May perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting heavy objects up to eighty (80) pounds on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward position for long periods of time. There are frequent exposures to extreme levels of temperature, air pollution, noise pollution, chemical gases and substances.

This is a Department of Public Works and Engineering Emergency Management Position at the Tier I Level.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma, GED, or the ability to read, write, add, subtract, and follow oral and/or basic written instructions at a level necessary for successful job performance supplemented by specialized courses or training in the operation of the equipment/instruments.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six months of general maintenance/work experience are required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Valid Texas Driver License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who have experience in plant and/or lift station maintenance or the collection system.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
