DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides for effective maintenance and operation of the wastewater utility. Utilizes troubleshooting skills to address utility operations and maintenance. May operate general equipment or perform tasks that do not require specialized licenses.
Assists with rodding, cleaning, and televising sewer lines. Inspects work sites.
Uses trucks and equipment to transport equipment, tools, and materials to work locations.
Prepares and maintains reports, forms, and records for operations, assignments, service calls, maintenance and repairs in wastewater utilizing a data tracking system.
Performs maintenance tasks related to the operation of the wastewater Collection system.
Reviews GIS to determine wastewater line segments and manhole location.
Performs maintenance tasks related to the operation of the wastewater collections system.

Locate and repair manholes, sewer-lines, cleanouts etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS
There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution.
The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns This position routinely requires stooping, bending, and/or lifting of items of 30 - 80 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.
Requirements
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma, GED, or the ability to read, write, add, subtract, and follow oral and/or basic written instructions at a level necessary for successful job performance supplemented by specialized courses or training in the operation of the construction equipment.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six (6) months of general maintenance/work experience are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTSRequires a valid Texas driver’s license and compliance with the City of Houston’s policy on driving.
Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants who have experience in plant and/or lift station maintenance or the collection system.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
