This position is located in the Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), Facilities Services Directorate (FSD), Facilities Operations and Services Division (FOSD).
The incumbent serves as a Utility Systems Repairer Operator performing maintenance, and repair tasks related to, RDF Chiller Plant and the Pentagon building mechanical systems.
as directed by the Plant Supervisor and/or General Foreman's.

Experience for the WG-5 is defined as experience that demonstrates the ability to: (1) Assist in performing routine preventive maintenance on mechanical systems such as HVAC, chilled water, or steam systems; (2) Use common hand and power tools to perform basic mechanical repairs; (3) Inspect equipment and report mechanical deficiencies to higher-grade employees.
Experience for the WG-8 is defined as experience that demonstrates the ability to: (1) Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems such as HVAC, chillers, steam, or water distribution systems; (2) Operate mechanical equipment using manual or local control systems; (3) Troubleshoot and repair common mechanical malfunctions using technical manuals or diagrams.
Experience for the WG-10 is defined as experience that demonstrates the ability to: (1) Operate and maintain industrial mechanical systems such as chillers, cooling towers, steam, compressed air, or water systems; (2) Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical equipment malfunctions; (3) Monitor and adjust system operations using direct digital controls or building automation systems.
Experience for the WG-11 is defined as experience that demonstrates the ability to: (1) Troubleshoot and repair complex industrial mechanical plant systems such as chillers, HVAC, steam distribution, compressed air, or water systems; (2) Diagnose system failures and restore equipment to operational status; (3) Operate and control plant systems using computerized building automation or SCADA systems.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The screen-out element for this position is "Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision" PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS: The work requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching, crawling, and climbing ladders.
Duties involve the use of various tools and the lifting of heavy equipment to conduct inspections, perform repairs, and resolve operational issues.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Indoor Work: The work environment can experience rapid temperature changes and includes exposure to various hazardous substances, such as acids, fumes from soldering, welding, batteries, steam, gas, hot water, and high-voltage conditions.
Incumbent may face risks of electric shock, falls from ladders, and injuries from tools and heavy equipment.
Physical Challenges: The role often involves working in awkward positions and potentially dangerous areas.
Incumbent might be exposed to dust, insulation, and asbestos particles, especially when working in ceiling areas.
Special precautions, including adherence to guidelines and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as Tyvek suits and respirators.
Outdoor Work: Outdoor assignments can require working under inclement weather conditions, with exposure to heat, cold, and rapid temperature changes.
Refrigeration Plants, Steam Tunnels, Manholes, and Mechanical Rooms: These areas can be noisy and subjected to extreme temperatures, dust, dirt, moving machinery, and pressurized piping systems containing hazardous chemicals.
Specialized handling and protective measures are required.
Safety Protocols: Compliance with safety procedures and the mandatory use of appropriate safety gear, including safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, protective eyewear, and gloves, are essential to ensure a safe working environment.
ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: Federal agencies treat active duty service member as veterans, disabled veterans, and preference eligible, when they submit, as part of their application package, a "certification" of active service in lieu of a DD-214, indicating the service member is otherwise eligible and will be discharged or released within 120 days from the date of submission..

Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following: Operates and monitors chiller plant and building mechanical systems using direct digital controls (DDC), local digital controls, and manual controls.
Observes alarms, system parameters, and instrumentation readings and addresses abnormal operating conditions.
Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on chillers, HVAC systems, steam and hot water systems, compressed air systems, and related mechanical equipment.
Isolates, de-energizes, and restores systems as required. Diagnoses causes of improper operation and equipment failures and initiates corrective actions to restore systems to operational status.
Documents maintenance actions and system status in the maintenance management system and plant logs.
Complies with safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, and provides guidance to lower-grade employees as assigned.
