Requirements

As an Utility Plant Operator 2 , you will operate and maintain steam generating boilers. You will be responsible for leading the utility plant shift and carrying out operations to meet steam demands. This will include:


  • Operating, maintaining, and regulating feed water pumps, forced draft fans, condensate return pumps, fuel oil pumps, air compressors, water softeners, chemical feed pumps, air dryers, pressure, level, and temperature controls
  • Recording plant operating conditions every two hours while maintaining shift production and usage records
  • Checking condensate return pumps and sump pumps in buildings outside plant
  • Testing boiler water for alkalinity, sulfite, phosphate residuals, and solids concentration
  • Adding chemicals as necessary to maintain control limits
  • Installing new equipment and making modifications to existing equipment

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • You will work Sunday - Saturday, with rotating days off, and no unpaid lunch break. Your schedule may change based on operational needs.
  • The following shifts are available:
    • Relief Operator- Swing shift between: 1st shift (7:00 AM to 3:00 PM); 2nd shift (3:00 PM to 11:00 PM); and 3rd shift (11:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
  • Overtime as needed
  • Free parking

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Utility Plant Operator 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of semi-skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes six months of semi-skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment.


Special Requirement:

  • You must be in possession of an active Class C motor vehicle license.
