Summary

This job is for aspiring state troopers who will train at the Iowa Department of Public Safety Academy to become certified law enforcement officers patrolling and protecting communities across Iowa.

It involves rigorous physical and mental preparation, followed by a career serving on various shifts, including nights and holidays.

Ideal candidates are physically fit, committed to public service, and ready for a demanding yet rewarding role in keeping people safe.

Key Requirements

  • At least 18 years old
  • Successful completion of the DPS Academy training and certification from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy
  • Pass physical fitness testing (1.5-mile run, sit-ups, push-ups, sit and reach)
  • Pass written test covering grammar, spelling, mathematics, and writing
  • Complete oral board interview, polygraph, psychological evaluation, medical evaluation, and extensive background investigation
  • Ability to work all shifts, extended hours, holidays, and weekends
  • U.S. work authorization verified through E-Verify
