Full Job Description

This position independently manages the Beneficiary Travel Program located in the Business Office of the James J. Peters VA Medical Center, in Bronx, New York.

TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-06 GRADE LEVEL, APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: TYPING PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist.

In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

~AND~ SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the Federal Service.

Specialized experience includes determining eligibility for a travel program; coordinating travel and arranging all modes of transportation; receiving, reviewing, and verifying requests for travel and reimbursement of travel costs; controlling and maintaining accounting records; and utilizing various software applications to complete office automation duties.

NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position.

Your experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.

A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.

Major Duties:

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties include but are not limited to the following: Independently manages the Medical Center's Beneficiary Travel Program.

Determines eligibility for the program and processes requests for benefits. Arranges all modes of transportation via air ambulance, commercial air, taxi, ambulance, bus and/or independent transports.

Corresponds with physicians, travelers, and vendors to determine the most dependable and economical mode of transportation.

Investigates authorizations, orders, and/or utilizes the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) to review medical records.

Acts as liaison between vendors and Fiscal Service for invoices pending payment. Responsible for balancing, reconciling, and adjusting invoices for payment.

Maintains and controls filing system in accordance with VA regulations.

Reviews requests for reimbursement of travel costs for the purpose of assuring compliance with regulations and procedures, completeness, accuracy, internal consistency, and agreement with basic authorization.
