Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping veterans with travel reimbursements by processing paperwork, entering data into systems, and resolving payment issues at a VA health care facility in St. Louis.

It's an entry-level role focused on accurate record-keeping and customer service in a supportive environment.

A good fit would be someone detail-oriented with basic office skills, who enjoys helping people and working with computers, and has either relevant experience or some college education.

Full Job Description

The employee will serve as a Transportation Assistant at the VA St. Louis Health Care System in St. Louis, MO.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/20/2026.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction up to GS-5, if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non temporary competitive appointment.If you are a current Federal employee, you must include your pay plan, series and grade in your work experience(s) on your resume submission and/or upload supporting documentation (within-grade increase SF50) to show that you meet the time-in-grade requirement.

In addition, if you step reflects '00', you must include your current salary for each position.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: preparing and sorting documents for data entry; entering data into database software and checking to ensure the accuracy of the data that is inputted; resolving discrepancies; and providing excellent customer service..

OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience.

To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite.

This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite..

OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond beyond high school.

Major Duties:

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Issue beneficiary travel reimbursement vouchers and process vouchers for payment using the various systems.

Preparing and sorting documents for data entry. Entering data into database software and checking to ensure the accuracy of the data that is inputted.

Reconcile travel vouchers against authorizations for accuracy prior to preparing certification for payments.

Follow the applicable processes for travel payments in accordance with all beneficiary travel policies. Research and resolve beneficiary travel payment issues.

Provide data/information to supervisor for required reports. Maintain professional work relationship with supervisors, colleagues and customers. Perform other duties as assigned.
