Full Job Description

You will serve as a TRAINING SPECIALIST in the Senior Officer Training Directorate of SURFACE WARFARE OFFICERS SCHOOL.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Managing a professional qualification program, including creating test databanks, securely distributing examinations, and analyzing results; 2) Developing complex maritime training curricula and instructional materials in collaboration with subject matter experts to meet organizational goals; 3) Instructing senior personnel in advanced navigation, seamanship, and shiphandling principles utilizing high-fidelity simulators; and 4) Administering an instructor certification and evaluation program to ensure instructional quality and maintain a roster of qualified subject matter experts.

Individual Occupational Requirements Experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction.

Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s).

Supervising or administering a training program. Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results.

Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will serve as the SWSCOLCOM point of contact for all matters relating to the Command Qualification Examination (CQE), where you will issue and grade over 300 exams annually.
  • You will gather inputs and questions from other teaching directorates to establish and maintain test databanks for the five mission areas being tested.
  • You develop course material (learning objectives, course master schedules, lessons, instructional aides, training plans, test banks, etc.) for PXO, PCO, MCO, and SOSMRC courses of instruction in compliance with Navy readiness standards.
  • You will research and analyze policy issues to recommend impacts on curriculum program development, execution, and management.
  • You will instruct senior Naval Officers (O4-O6) in all facets of Close Quarter Maneuvering, providing classroom instruction and operating SWOS-furnished shiphandling simulators to assess professional competence in complex maritime operations.
  • You will serve as Principal Manager for the Directorate Instructor Certification and Instructor Evaluation program.
