Summary

This job involves leading a team to manage transportation policies and operations for the Defense Logistics Agency, focusing on moving supplies, freight, and personnel efficiently while ensuring compliance with regulations.

See below for important information regarding this job. To qualify for a Traffic Management Specialist, your resume and supporting documentation must support: A.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position.

To qualify at the GS-13 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector.

Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement.

Creditable specialized experience includes: Managing or participating in managing a transportation or traffic program involving (1) operating a transport or traffic system to move passengers or commodities of an organization when there is accountability for operating costs, (2) operating a transportation system to provide common carrier types of services to shippers, and (3) procuring common or other carriers and other transportation services to move an organization's personnel, freight, and/or other commodities.

Conducting or participating in conducting surveys and studies of the traffic management function, operating methods, procedures, and performance.

Making presentations on traffic matters before Federal, State, or local regulatory bodies.

Performing loss and damage prevention work when this included responsibilities such as policy and procedures formulation and studies of traffic operations and services.

Providing advisory service involving commodity analysis from the transportation standpoint.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

  • Serves as a Senior Transportation Specialist/Team Lead over the Transportation Policy Team, Material Movement Branch and DLA Distribution.
  • Participates with the Material Movement Branch Chief in planning current and long range objectives and new policies and procedures for a variety of transportation functional operational areas.
  • Interprets, develops, coordinates and evaluates policies and procedures of supply, distribution, transportation, systems, and customer service projects based on regulatory requirements.
  • Serves as a senior transportation subject matter expert with responsibilities of leading lower graded staff.
  • Performs management improvement studies and makes recommendations regarding findings.
