Parks and Recreation/Bluestone State Park
Working with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, this employee will lead all aspects of the building maintenance program at Bluestone State Park. Employee must have extensive, practical knowledge of and experience in carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electricity, heating/air conditioning, and the ability to lead maintenance, renovation, and repair to the same. Professional certifications in any of the above will be given considerable weight in the selection process. This individual will lead other employees and will also be required to prepare schedules and assign duties based upon priority and need. Should have some basic knowledge of budgetary and bidding procedures mandated by the State Purchasing Division or ability to learn and become proficient with the same. This position will work as a lead, performing the same or related duties as assigned to staff as well as visually inspecting work performed. Performs carpentry work such as building, repairing, and installing counters, cabinets, benches, tables, chairs, partitions, floors, steps, doors, building framework and trim using hand tools and power tools. Constructs and repairs structural woodwork and equipment, working from prints, drawings, or oral instructions. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on building HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems; troubleshoots electrical controls. Performs repairs to equipment such as replacing motors, belts, seals, bearings, and blades. Repairs dry wall and masonry structures. Repairs and replaces sinks, toilets, faucets, pipes, drains and water lines. Paints, finishes, and decorates surfaces of buildings, equipment, machinery, and furnishings, both interior and exterior. Prepares area; erects scaffolding; cleans surfaces; mixes paints and allied products. Repairs and maintains tools and equipment used. May perform grounds work such as mowing and trimming, removing snow, sweeping sidewalks, and picking up trash. Employee must be available for emergency repairs as scheduled on a “subject to call” basis. Facilities on the 2,154 acres of Bluestone State Park include a swimming pool and bathhouse, restrooms, administration/gift shop building, maintenance building, superintendent residence, assistant superintendent residence, picnic shelters, 26 rental cabins, 4 campgrounds with a total of 120 sites, activity building, game courts, playground, and hiking trails. Will also work directly with other supervisors to plan and conduct repairs and upgrades in related areas. This person will operate under supervision of the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent and must work to foster good employee, community, and park guest relations. Must always maintain safe work practices for self and other staff. Employee will be required to wear provided uniforms. Employee performs all other necessary duties as assigned or required. Employee must have valid driver’s license. Regular attendance is a requirement of this position. Performs other duties as assigned and required.

Special Requirements: Employee will be available to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and night shifts. Employee will be available for “on call” work. Employee will work throughout all park facilities. Employee will be able to lift and move heavy objects. Employee will be required to work on ladders and at rooftop heights. Employee will be required within 18 months of their appointment to obtain a Class S Sewage Treatment Plant Operator License. Licenses and any further, advanced, or additional permit licensing and/or requirements necessary to operate the sewage treatment system at the park will be obtained and maintained throughout employment.

Qualifications

Training: Graduation from a standard four-year high school or the equivalent.

Experience: Three years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience or paid self-employment in heating, cooling, ventilation, building maintenance, or building trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, plasterer, welder, machinist, or masonry.

Special Requirement: Specific positions may require certification from a federal EPA approved testing organization as a certified technician required by the clean Air Act on refrigerant recycling.
