This position serves as a Tractor Operator performing grounds maintenance using various mobile vehicles, equipment, and attachments and performs operator maintenance on tractors and equipment.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.
Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent must have good eyesight and normal coordination of hands, arms, legs, and feet, and must be able to bend and stoop.
Incumbent will be expected to lift and handle more than 75 pounds while loading and unloading cargo and while making couplings between equipment and vehicles.
Working conditions are sometimes difficult working with grease, in extreme heat or cold, unventilated areas, near steam and hot water lines, in rain, high winds, snow, and ice, etc.
Incumbent is expected to work in adverse weather conditions depending on requirements of the job incumbent is assigned.
Incumbent may be required to report for duty for all emergencies that may occur at the Medical Center. Incumbent enters and exits heated buildings in all types of weather. Major Duties:
The incumbent must have the knowledge, skill and dexterity to operate mowing equipment, farm equipment, and industrial type tractors through 50 hp and 4x4 truck through 1 1/2 ton.
This includes dual and triple hydraulic control systems which control length, depth load, draft and control speed of the equipment and attachments.
Since equipment being operated is much larger and heavier than normal, special judgements concerning equipment operations such as lift capacity and balance must be considered during operation.
Major duties include but are not limited to: Performs operator maintenance on equipment to assure equipment is properly maintained.
Performs preventative maintenance on all grounds equipment to ensure all equipment operates safely and properly.
Installs and adjusts components such as belts, bearing, hose and makes adjustments to assure all equipment operates properly.
Uses mowers, plows, aerators, chippers, sprayers, disks, front-end loading devices, backhoes, and equipment that may be operated by direct drive or a power take off.
Operates heavy equipment to push, pull, pile or load materials. Cuts grass with push lawn mowers, rakes leaves, and pulls weeds.
Cleans and sweeps surfaces to keep them clear of leaves, branches, dirt and all debris. Repairs holes in streets, sidewalks, and parking lots.
Spreads salt/chemicals on icy surfaces, shovels snow and/or snowplows.
Operating mowers with triple mowing decks while being aware of large path and watching for obstructions that could cause damage to lawns, shrubs, trees, or equipment.
