Full Job Description

You will serve as a TOOLMAKER in the CNC AND PRECISION MACHINING SHOP (31A), MECHANICAL DIVISION (TRF-320) ofTRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION Planning and laying out work orders for tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, punches, dies, molds, relates pieces and portable machinery to be developed, fabricated, overhauled, repaired, calibrated, etc.

Establishing the setup of common machine tools to perform special and precise machining operations by devising and constructing fixtures and holding devices.

Applying a wide variety of machine shop procedures, techniques and shop mathematics. Reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches and other technical specifications.

Using micrometers, Vernier's, height gauges, surface gauges, dial indicators, comparators, etc.

  • You will responsible for developing, fabricating, overhauling, repairing, and calibrating a variety of tools, jigs, fixtures, gages, punches, dies, molds, and related pieces.
  • You will develop and fabricate complete portable machinery to support special submarine systems/equipment removal, repair, etc.
  • You will plan and lay out work orders for tools, jigs, fixtures, gages, punches, dies, molds, related pieces, and portable machinery to be developed, fabricated, overhauled, repaired, calibrated, etc.
  • You will perform machining, assembly, hand fitting, and finishing work required to produce required tools, jigs, fixtures, gages, dies, molds, related pieces, and portable machinery.
  • You will maintain liaison with other trade and technical personnel to discuss a variety of technical issues concerning tool making requirements associated with refit operations.
  • You will perform related duties including quality control coordination tasks required to ensure the quality of products/services resulting from work performed.
  • You will ensure a clean environment by removing used materials, properly stowing materials (including hazardous materials), parts and tools as well as disposing of hazardous waste in accordance with TRF instructions.
